MUN Committee

We can assure that the activity we are most proud of is our participation in both national and international conferences, such as simulations of the United Nations bodies. These Model UN conferences bring together a significant number of young and ambitious people from versatile cultural backgrounds and from different universities around the world.

Those are the best students from all academic fields, interested in international law and diplomacy. They are a true example of diligent enthusiasts, willing to broaden their horizons, share their knowledge and work on achieving the  ideas whose objective is the improvement of our society. These young people are the creators of the future diplomatic relations and we can gladly say that our members took part in numerous conferences of this type organized in a competitive spirit. Our members have participated in these conferences not only as part of the organizing and volunteer teams, but also as chairpersons of the UN committees and as delegates and representatives of certain countries. Hard work and dedication have always been awarded by numerous honors and awards for the best delegates which were delivered to our members at the end of the conferences. Bearing in mind numerous conferences we plan to attend in near future, these are only some in which we have participated so far:

Participants of the aforementioned conferences are not only students, but also eminent experts in the fields of international relations, international law, diplomacy and economy. At each of these conferences, panel discussions are organized to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience among participants. This type of discussion provides a unique opportunity to exchange views on a highly professional level which is of significant value for the further academic development of our members.

In addition to the knowledge, experience and helpful advices that we have received, the opportunity to take part in these international conferences has helped the United Nations Club of  University of Belgrade Faculty of Law to establish cooperation with the organizers of said events (e.g. Universities, students’ organizations, United Nations Associations).

Establishing cooperation with the aim of organizing mutual study visits to the respective faculties, forming projects for association members, preparing and training joint delegations for participation in international conferences, organizing forums, lectures, panel discussions, simulations and study travels, are all of great importance for the development of our Club.

Over the years of participation at the Belgrade International Model United Nations (BIMUN) conference, we have won numerous awards for representing assigned countries and simulating the work of young diplomats. We have gotten in touch and have established successful long-term cooperation with the United Nations Association of Serbia.

Furthermore, we have heard inspirational speeches delivered by Ambassador Dragan Županjevac (one of our prominent diplomats to the United Nations), Jasmina Stanković Tatarac (Secretary General of the National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO), and Irena Vojáčková-Sollorano (UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Serbia).

Distinguished panelists at the Belgrade Model European Union such as Tanja Miščević (Head of the Negotiating Team for Accession of the Republic of Serbia to the EU), H.E. Dagmar Repčeková (Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Serbia), Tony Verheijen (the World Bank Country Manager in Serbia), as well as other diplomats and representatives of non-governmental organizations, deepened our knowledge of the European Union integration process and shared their thoughts on potential solutions of the European crisis.

The opportunity to participate in MUNSC Salient and MUNLawS conferences in Ljubljana, Slovenia has enabled us to establish another long-term cooperation with the United Nations Association of Slovenia, Faculty of Social Sciences in Ljubljana and the Student Association for International Relations “Globallis”. We were honored to attend the speeches delivered by H.E. Milan Brglez PhD (President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia) and Caroline Van Buren (Deputy Regional Representative of UNHCR in Central Europe). During the round tables and panel discussions with students, we had the opportunity to talk to the ambassadors of the United States, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Ireland, Switzerland and Germany in Slovenia, several members of the European Parliament, diplomats of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia and numerous professors.

Consequently, we are proud to add that we have successfully and independently organized a simulation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for our members at the Faculty of Law. The simulation was preceded by an extensive lecture held by Miloš Stojanović, the Regional Project Manager of UNODC in Serbia, who introduced us to the activities and initiatives of this UN office.
