The United Nations Club is very honored to be part of the TEDxPlaceDesNationsWomen organization and its live broadcast from the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva on December 6th at the Conference Hall of the Law Faculty of the University of Belgrade!
We sincerely thank the representative of the United Nations, the Development Assistance (Aid) Coordination Officer, Mr. Dennis Schleppi and Lecturer at the Department of Theory, Sociology, and Philosophy of Law, Ms. Valerija Dabetić who formally opened such an important event together with the President of the United Nations Club, Sara Petrović!
UN Geneva, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), along with a large number of UN bodies and other institutions, were the organizers of the third TEDx event – TEDxPlaceDesNationsWomen – in the Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations Hall at the Palace of Nations.
The topic of this year’s edition was “Empowerment” – inspired by the year marked by many positive changes in the field of empowerment of women and gender equality.
The very inspirational speakers shared with us their personal experiences, the challenges they faced, the ways in which they managed to overcome all the hurdles on the path to success, and also their contribution to make the world around us a better place to live. TEDx speeches have a long tradition of conveying the “ideas worth sharing”. Hence, we listened to the speakers’ personal examples on facing the problems of today and whose solutions we need for the civilization progress. We had the opportunity to hear how to become a social entrepreneur and help young people, how difficult the life of stateless people is, what challenges to education are faced by stateless people and refugees, how should we approach topics that are considered as a taboo but still represent part of the policy towards female body – such as genital mutilation, as well as many other topics that concern business and social aspects of empowering women.
We are honored to have been the only student organization from the region in cooperation with the United Nations, to broadcast this edition of TEDx and we hope that it will serve as an inspiration for everyone to organize such events more often!
