One of the main stations of our visit was at the World Trade Organization, which is located not far from the Palace of Nations, just around the coast of Lake Geneva. Mr. Fernando Puchol hosted us at very imposing and the only headquarters of the organization. Within this visit, we listened about history, structure and functioning of the organization, as well as our candidacy for this organization that has not yet been converted into membership. Through the discussion about the work of the organization, we were given interesting examples from practice.
We talked about the reasons why the Republic of Serbia, besides Bosnia and Herzegovina and Belarus, is one of the three countries of Europe that is not a member of this global organization. Mr. Puchol presented us some of the conditions for accession that have changed over the years throughout development of the organization and as such are an obstacle to the expansion of membership at the WTO.
